Analysis, architecture, development, testing and documentation for a small team based in the Space Science Centre in the School of Engineering at the University of Sussex, supporting the development and operations phases of scientific instruments on the four Cluster satellites launched by the European Space Agency in collaboration with NASA. A lot of traveling abroad to work with our European partners in the Netherlands (at ESTEC, the European Space Research and Technology Centre), Paris, Sweden, and Poland. I'm now helping with market planning, product development and sales for Multicriteria Mapping (see the link above).
For this Brighton-based research consultancy, designed and developed a prototype database of construction skills for the UK's Construction Skills agency (then called the CITB). Custom CMS using Microsoft Access, PHP, Perl, MySQL. Requirements analysis, specification, project management, end-user documentation and training at CITB's UK headquarters. Interviewed users across the organisation at various levels to analyse requirements.
Support and custom development of the Multicriteria Mapping tools for a project the UK Sustainable Hydrogen Energy Consortium (UKSHEC) ran in relation to a set of visions of possible hydrogen futures for the UK. Read more about this project.
Web development, hosting and copywriting for this management consultancy. As a result of my work on this site, the site won an award for accessibility in web design. Learning Navigators is now wrapped up, but Peter Welch continues his consulting work as Peter Welch Coaching.
For this vendor of business forecasting software, I upgraded their tutorial for PHP access to their SOAP API from PHP4 to PHP5. I rewrote the example (open source) code and improved the text. The resulting document and code is public: Web Services Tutorial with PHP5 and standard SOAP libraries.
