I spent a few months at SPRU, University of Sussex, helping my old friend Steve Sorrell crunch a tonne of Department of Transport data into numbers that would help answer some pressing questions about road freight use in the UK and its impact on climate change. I wrote a flexible implementation in Python of Ang's Log-Mean Divisia decomposition analysis. The package reads data from Microsoft Access and Microsoft Excel, and produces results in an Excel worksheet. Beyond software development, I helped with other quantitative analysis tasks including some linear regression, and the making up of some very big numbers.
